Manchester United’s defeat to Liverpool at the weekend was a chastening experience for anybody who watched it in person or on television.
One of those in attendance was Manchester United football director John Murtough, who did have a brief comment after the match in response to the defeat.
United had been hammered 7-0, suffering one of the most surprising meltdowns in recent memory, having come into the game in great form, and beaten Liverpool 2-1 earlier in the season.
The Mail has reported how Murtough was approached after the game and had a quick response.

John Murtough reaction
The Mail report John Murtough was asked how he felt as he was leaving Anfield and making his way back to Manchester.
He responded: “Had better days, that’s for sure.”
Whether this was the best response, to try and lighten the mood, is unclear. Some may have preferred him to express his anger.
But that is probably best left to manager Erik ten Hag. Murtough is there to assist and make Ten Hag’s job easier, rather than put him under pressure.
Murtough was likely just still in a state of shock, like the rest of the Manchester United management team.
The same report noted assistant boss Steve McClaren was ‘looking like he had seen a ghost’ as he departed Anfield.
Manchester United’s players were in a state of shock on the pitch during the heavy defeat, unable to get a grip of the game as Liverpool ran rampant.
It was a freak result, and one the team will be desperate to put in the rear view mirror. United’s next two matches are at home, hosting Real Betis on Thursday in the Europa League and then Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday.
