Marcel Sabitzer gives blunt response when asked if Manchester United deserved to beat Fulham

Marcel Sabitzer was the matchwinner as Manchester United beat Fulham 3-1 at Old Trafford.

The Austrian scored the goal which gave United the lead with a well taken goal from close range after a Luke Shaw cross.

It was Sabitzer’s first goal for United since joining from Bayern Munich on loan in January.

The goal came at the perfect time, just after Bruno Fernandes had levelled from the penalty spot.

Sabitzer hails United win

Marcel Sabitzer spoke to broadcaster ITV at full-time and admitted Fulham had given United a tough game.

He said: “Massive win. We wanted to go back to Wembley. Hard and tough but it was a good one.”

Asked about the feeling of scoring his first goal for the club, he added: “I’m very, very happy now.”

Sabitzer and United have recently experienced Wembley joy after beating Newcastle 2-0 in the Carabao Cup final.

The midfielder was asked by ITV if Manchester United deserved to win the game.

He had a very blunt response: “We won it. Why not? We scored three, they scored one.”

United had struggled to leave an imprint on the game over the first 70 minutes with Fulham taking a deserved lead.

Then came a couple of minutes of madness with William handling a Jadon Sancho shot on the line, leading to two red cards, plus another one to manager Marco Silva.

Bruno Fernandes scored United’s equaliser from the penalty spot, before Sabitzer’s goal, and then Fernandes added a third in injury time.

The victory took Manchester United into the semi-finals, setting up a clash against Brighton at Wembley.

The winner will face either Manchester City or Sheffield United in the final.
