'You take notice': English defender speaks out about being scouted by Manchester United this season

Jarrad Branthwaite has spoken about his future after reports Manchester United have scouted him this season.

The Mirror report that United have had their scouts watching the Everton loanee up close this term, where he has impressed in Holland.

Erik ten Hag has put the Dutch league at the heart of his recruitment strategy at times with United, and Branthwaite of course also has experience of English football too.

The Englishman has said he has taken notice of United’s interest, but there is a long way to go before anything is decided.

He said: “I think when all of those clubs are interested and watching your games, it’s gonna be one of them where you take notice.

“But for me it’s just about playing the games. The first half of the season, as I said, I wasn’t playing as many games as a I want, but now I’m just fully focussed on doing that and performing to the best I can.

“I’ve been there three years now and I’ve had numerous managers, so for a young player it’s hard to settle. I’m looking forward to finishing the season here, playing the games and then seeing what happens and so on.

“When a different manager comes in, you’ve got to try and impress, and when you’re a young player it’s not easy to get in the team. Obviously they’re gonna pick the experienced players over you and that sort of thing.”

United were first linked with a move for Branthwaite by The Mail in 2021, when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was still in charge.

Then the Mail linked us again last April, with the interest seemingly continuing into the Erik ten Hag era.

At the moment, United are well-stocked at centre-half, but Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe are almost certain to leave this summer.

It seems like one of Victor Lindelof or Harry Maguire will go this summer to raise funds for Ten Hag to bolster his squad.

Branthwaite could come in as a cover option, but it seems likely he would like to go somewhere he would play more often next season if he made a summer move.

The fact he is a left-footer could count in his favour, with Ten Hag putting a lot of emphasis on the balance of his central defenders when playing out from the back.
