Erik ten Hag has seen what electric Manchester United wonderkid is capable of and he's made a big decision

Argentine journalist Gaston Edul says via Twitter: “Manchester United did not let Alejandro Garnacho play the Sub 20 World Cup with the Argentine National Team.

“He did everything he could to be there. It became clear that his shirt is Argentina. Soon we will see him with the Selection.”

Alejandro Garnacho will be frustrated, but there was no need to worry about this complicating anything with regard to his contract situation – he signed a new deal today running to 2028. Any top European club would make the same decision in the circumstance, he is too important to do without.

Erik ten Hag saw how Alejandro Garnacho was missed

Manchester United have had to do without Alejandro Garnacho over the past two months since his injury in early March.

He is expected to return shortly, with Erik ten Hag saying he is now back on the training pitch.

Garnacho’s return will be vital. He has been badly missed, with last night’s draw at Tottenham a case in point.

The teenager has established himself as a vital part of the squad, sometimes starting, but making his biggest impacts from the bench.

He changed the game in the Manchester derby when his electric cameo took the game to City, and ended up with him providing the assist for Marcus Rashford’s winner.

A sparky substitute appearance at home to Barcelona was also impressive, with his pace and directness really causing problems for teams.

This was what United lacked against Tottenham, and at home to Sevilla. A pacy attacking player who Erik ten Hag trusts, who can stretch teams and cause them problems with his unpredictability.

Just like he was in the derby in January, Garnacho can be the difference between winning and losing the FA Cup final.

Ten Hag knows it, and has made the only decision he could. There will be plenty of international opportunities ahead for Garnacho.
