President of Argentina Football Association reacts to Lisandro Martinez injury

Lisandro Martinez suffered an injury while playing for Manchester United in the Europa League quarter-finals.

The defender was helped off the pitch by two Sevilla teammates. Marcos Acuna and Gonzalo Montiel both knew Lisandro Martinez from the Argentina set up and were clearly concerned for him.

The full extent of Martinez’s injury is yet to be established. But it is safe to say he won’t be appearing for United this weekend.

There is concern on the other side of the globe too, with Martinez a popular player in his native Argentina.

Reaction to Martinez injury

The president of the Argentina FA, Chiqui Tapia, reacted to Martinez’s injury, with a comment on social media.

He responded to the sportsmanship and togetherness shown by Martinez’s Argentine compatriots who helped him off the pitch.

Tapia wrote: “There will always be a place where we share triumphs and pains. The Argentine team is family. Fuerza Licha.”

Martinez was part of the Argentina squad which won the World Cup late last year, becoming the fifth player to win the tournament while contracted to Manchester United.

The injury to Martinez was compounded by one suffered by Raphael Varane, which while less serious, could still see the France international miss time.

Manchester United’s squad is now being put to the test at the back end of a gruelling season.

I would love to see Martinez back in action as quickly as possible, but right now it looks like a long shot he could feature again in 2022/23.
