The Manchester United side that played Brentford at home in the Premier League last season will be a stark contrast compared to the squad that Erik ten Hag will field on Wednesday night.
The Red Devils will be looking for redemption after their horrendous outing at the Gtech Community Stadium at the beginning of the campaign. Ten Hag’s men were stung heavily by the Bees as they ran out 4-0 winners. Lisandro Martinez was heavily criticised, having been bullied by Ivan Toney for the duration of the fixture.
A lot has changed since then though. Ten Hag has really found his groove, players have settled in nicely and United are slowly getting back to where they need to be. In comparison to where they were this time last season, it’s a monumental difference.
So, with this – let’s take a look at the United side that last played Brentford at home.

Manchester United team versus Brentford at home 21/22 season
Here is the full side that faced Brentford at Old Trafford last season.
- GK: David De Gea
- LB: Alex Telles
- CB: Victor Lindelof
- CB: Raphael Varane
- RB: Diogo Dalot
- CDM: Scott McTominay
- CDM: Nemanja Matic
- RM: Anthony Elanga
- LM: Bruno Fernandes
- CAM: Juan Mata
- ST: Cristiano Ronaldo
Manager: Ralf Rangnick
What a difference a year makes. This team almost looks unrecognizable now.
Four of the names are currently out of the club, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata and Alex Telles all moving on, but the team also includes a plethora of players that are definitely rotation players under ten Hag’s regime like Scott McTominay, Victor Lindelof, Diogo Dalot and Anthony Elanga.
The subs bench also featured some names that are no longer around, with Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard and Eric Bailly being the most notable.
This performance however was actually one of the best in Ralf Rangnick‘s short reign. The Red Devils ran out 3-0 winners with goals from Bruno, Ronaldo and Varane.
Ten Hag will be desperate for a victory following the disappointing display on Sunday at St James’ Park – let’s see I he can replicate Rangnick’s successes in this fixture.
