Manchester United’s number one has put in one of his best all round performances of the year, as he wins the golden glove.
The performance secured a 1-0 win for Manchester United against Bournemouth, moving within one point of champions league football.
The latest clean sheet meant David de Gea secured his position as the outright Premier League clean sheet winner.
His 17th clean sheet in 36 games, an impressive result given some of the lows United have endured this year.
The triumph is his second of his career, adding to his world class 2017/18 season triumph.
Making four saves today from inside the box, the Spanish keeper deserves his flowers.
De Gea proves he isn’t done yet
De Gea has been rumoured to be on his way out, with a contract expiry in June. However he now appears likely to sign a new deal, a move which has conflicted fans.
On the one hand he is a club legend, between the sticks for over a decade. He also has won nearly every trophy available at the club during his tenure.
However the relationship has began to sour, as Erik ten Hag expects a different style from his goalkeeper. Consistently proving inept at playing out from the back, and with mistake becoming increasingly common, de Gea has lost the support of fans.
However he is still capable of winning the club games on his own, with huge saves down the years.
Despite a steady improvement in his distrubution, de Gea isn’t good enough in that department.
An area ten Hag values so highly and therefore even if he stays, it is hard to vision him starting with another option rumoured to be inbound.
It is yet to be seen if the number one will earn a new contract, however he definitely staked his claim for one with his performance today.
