Paul Pogba has finally made his first start since leaving Manchester United. It didn’t end well.
It it safe to say Paul Pogba‘s career since leaving Manchester United has spiraled into a bit of a nightmare.
An injury in pre-season for Juventus ended up costing him a place at the World Cup with France.
He has missed most of 2023 too, before recently making his comeback. Tonight he made his first start for Juventus.
Paul Pogba injured again
Paul Pogba’s final appearance for Manchester United came 13 months ago in a defeat at Anfield in which he was substituted after just 10 minutes.
His prospects were beginning to look up after his Juventus troubles, after he came off the bench to provide an assist in their Europa League semi-final draw with Sevilla on Thursday.
He made his comeback tonight in their Serie A tie with Cremonese. He lasted only 21 minutes.
Pogba went down injured and looked in distress. He had to be helped off the pitch by the medical staff.
While the extent of his injury is unclear, it is not unreasonable to suggest that Pogba’s first season back at Juventus could be over.
It has been a nightmare for him. He had a tough spell with injuries at Manchester United, but nothing ever quite this bad.
United’s decision not to pay Pogba a substantial salary to stay appears to have been a smart one.
The Frenchman did not leave on the best of terms, but some of his detractors might even feel a little sorry for him at this point.
