4 goalkeepers who could easily replace David De Gea at Manchester United this summer

Manchester United may be looking to replace David De Gea this summer. Here are four keepers who could easily come in and take the number one spot…

Diogo Costa

Probably the Red Devils’ number one choice to replace the Spaniard is FC Porto’s Diogo Costa.

For Porto this season, Costa had 16 league clean sheets in 33 games, conceding just 22 goals in all. He’s so much more than this though, as one of his major selling points is his distribution and ability to command his area, something De Gea certainly doesn’t have in abundance.

He’s also very young and has time to develop, meaning he could have a place in the starting XI for many, many years to come. He does come at somewhat of a fee, with the estimated cost around £65m. However, given his ability and age, this could be paid back tenfold if he did make the switch to Old Trafford.

Andre Onana

A man that fought valiantly in an attempt to try and stop Manchester City from winning the domestic treble – it’s Andre Onana.

The Cameroonian has been one of Inter Milan’s stand-out performers this season and has attracted interest from numerous clubs, including Chelsea who appear very interested at this moment in time.

But it makes perfect sense for United to go in for him. Inter are struggling financially and will need to at least sell a few big names to ease their money woes.

Onana, 27 – could be one of them that’s let go. His sublime performances this season earned him the spot as the Champions League best keeper this campaign. United are back in the illustrious competition this season, so why not take 2022/23’s best shot-stopper along for the ride with us?

David Raya

A player that’s proven his weight in gold in the Premier League this season is David Raya.

No disrespect to Brentford, but Raya belongs at a top, top club. He’s technically one of the best goalkeepers in the business and he’s a huge reason why Brentford were so successful in England’s top flight this season.

What says it all is that Raya is actually held in higher regard for the national team than De Gea. There’s evidently a reason for this and it’s down to De Gea’s incompetence when it comes to big game situations, which is essential in national fixtures.

Raya would be a quality addition, but it’ll be difficult to pry him away from Brentford’s grasp and from potential buyers, with Tottenham heavily rumoured to be interested.

Mike Maignan

Last but not least, arguably the keeper with the most quality already is Mike Maignan.

The Frenchman has established himself as one of the world’s best goalkeepers over the past few seasons. Dubbed ‘Magic Mike’ by his fans, the AC Milan keeper is also France’s number one – which is mightily impressive given the sheer plethora of goalkeeping talent they have on offer.

His services will cost a pretty penny, with the Italian side not even entertaining any offers under £60m. For a keeper of his quality though – fair play.
