The Manchester United takeover battle between Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim is dragging on and on.
Sheikh Jassim has the momentum in the Manchester United takeover battle, with Reuters last week reporting his bid is viewed ‘more favourably’ than the Glazers.
But as reported by Andy Mitten for The National over the weekend, Sir Jim Ratcliffe‘s Ineos remain ‘quietly confident’ about their own bid.
Ratcliffe owns French side Nice, where British cycling guru Sir Dave Brailsford is his trusted advisor, working as the club’s director of sport.

Brailsford explains transfer strategy
Manchester United face a pivotal summer, with Premier League rivals already looking to strengthen. The Red Devils have key positions to solve, up front and in goal.
The Mail report that whoever takes over Manchester United will not be able to plunge unlimited funds into the club’s transfer coffers.
This is due to United owing £300 million in unpaid transfer fees. It is reported United could benefit from an extra £50 million being freed up if interest charges on debts are paid off.
But signing ‘Galacticos’ is not part of the Sir Jim Ratcliffe model, as Dave Brailsford explained earlier this year.
Brailsford is quoted by the Nice official website: “In the world of sport, it’s not about investing loads of money and buying players.
“A team of stars will always be beaten by a star team. Investing money smartly in order to create something that will make the fans proud is the aim. That’s what we’re going to do.”
Nice are currently short of their objectives, but Brailsford and Ratcliffe’s strategy is clear. In France, they don’t even have the option of ploughing in lots of money.
He explains: “Even though Jim offered a lot of money to buy Chelsea, what with Financial Fair Play, he wouldn’t have been able to take that money and give it to Nice. It doesn’t work like that. It’s harder than you might think; we need to increase our commercial revenue.”
Manchester United’s need to comply with FFP leaves Ratcliffe in a similar scenario, needing to spend smartly, rather than heavily.
The track record at Nice has not been especially successful, but there will be more money available at Old Trafford due to the amount of money the Red Devils generate commercially.
Just don’t expect star names like Neymar to be on the club’s target list.
