4 young players with 0 Premier League starts pictured in Manchester United first training session ahead of Tottenham

Manchester United involved four inexperienced young players in first team training ahead of this weekend’s match with Tottenham.

Thursday’s session saw Omari Forson (top) involved, along with Alvaro Fernandez, Hannibal Mejbri, and Dan Gore.

All four add depth to Erik ten Hag‘s squad and continued their involvement after active roles in pre-season.

None of the quartet made Manchester United’s matchday squad against Wolves, and will be hoping to work their way in and show the manager they are worthy of selection.

What are the prospects for young Manchester United quartet

All four are yet to start a Premier League game. Hannibal has come closest with three substitute appearances. They will each be hoping this changes this coming season.

OMARI FORSON: The young attacker emerged in pre-season as a player Erik ten Hag is very interested in. He is an option as a winger, however, would only really get opportunities if Facundo Pellistri was sent out on loan.

HANNIBAL: Hannibal has one of the better chances to make United’s bench sooner rather than later. He was lively in pre-season and unlucky not to make the matchday squad against Wolves.

DAN GORE: Gore is more of a long-term project, but if Scott McTominay were to suffer an injury, then he would find himself rising up the pecking order. With Kobbie Mainoo injured and no other midfielder signed, Gore is in the mix.

ALVARO FERNANDEZ: Alvaro Fernandez did not do enough in pre-season to emerge as a challenger to Luke Shaw at left-back. He is there as back-up, but at present, Erik ten Hag will simply use Diogo Dalot as cover. Tyrell Malacia is out injured still. A loan is likely.

Under-21 game on Friday night

Manchester United’s under-21 side are in action at Old Trafford on Friday night against Leeds.

None of these four players were involved in Monday’s 3-2 defeat to Crystal Palace, however, there is a chance some or all of them could play this next fixture.

It will be a good opportunity to play at Old Trafford, although it will depend on Erik ten Hag’s plans. If he does not intend to take any of them in his traveling squad to play Tottenham, and they are left behind, it makes sense for them to get some minutes for the under-21s.
