Dean Henderson is nearing a move away from Manchester Unite having been given permission to undergo a medical with Crystal Palace.
Henderson spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest but missed the second half of the season through injury.
The England international returned to Old Trafford with his future somewhat unclear.
Would United look to sell him? Would Henderson have the chance to replace David De Gea?
Well, we know the answer to the latter part here; United chose to splash the cash on Andre Onana rather than turn to Henderson.
As for the first question, Henderson’s future has seemed unclear for a while now but we seem to be nearing the answer…
Dean Henderson given permission to undergo Crystal Palace medical
Henderson isn’t heading back to Forest but rather moving down to South London with Crystal Palace.
Sky Sports report that Henderson is now travelling to London in order to finalise his move to Selhurst Park.
United have allowed Henderson to make the journey south and a medical will take place on Sunday.
It’s even stated that Palace’s sporting director Dougie Freedman was in attendance at Old Trafford on Saturday to watch United beat Nottingham Forest 3-2.
Freedman was there to fully finalise Henderson’s move – and it looks like being a permanent deal.
Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth claims that the deal being discussed is for a permanent move with Henderson calling time on his connection with the Red Devils.
Henderson joined United from Carlisle United back in 2011 but after 12 years at the club, he’s on his way out.
Henderson could take the spot of another former United talent
Crystal Palace have been seeking a new goalkeeper having been in something of a stand-off with veteran stopper Vicente Guaita.
When Henderson completes his move to the capital, he will be in direct competition with another former United goalkeeping talent.
Sam Johnstone is Palace’s current number one and has started their two Premier League games so far this term.
Johnstone – just like Henderson – joined the United ranks at a young age and was farmed out on loan throughout the Football League.
Now 30, Johnstone has become a decent Premier League goalkeeper but Henderson will be signed with the idea of supplanting him.
Johnstone urged Henderson to leave United less than a year ago but may now find the 26-year-old taking his spot between the sticks for Palace.
