8 wins from 8: Star Man United sold has 100 per cent record at new club

Now, this is what we mean when we say ‘immediate impact’. Fred, since his £13 million move from Manchester United to Fenerbahce during the summer transfer window, has not been on the losing side once at his new club.

He hasn’t even been held to a draw. In fact, of the eight games Fred has started for the Turkish Super Lig giants, Fenerbahce have won all eight.

That includes a 5-1 hammering of FC Twente in the Conference League qualifiers, and last week’s 3-1 group-stage triumph over Nordsjaelland, the Brazil international grabbing his first two assists for Ismail Kartal’s side as Fener flew out of the European blocks.

The most recent was a 4-0 thumping of former Manchester United nemesis-team Istanbul Basaksehir, this past Thursday night, with Fred playing 63 minutes.

Fred praised

“We have to give Fred his due. He played a very good game,” former Turkey international Ilker Yagcioglu told TRT Sport after the Manchester United cult hero stood out again during Sunday’s 1-0 triumph at Alanyaspor.

“His relationship with (fellow midfielder) Ismail Yuksek is also very successful. Just as we talked about (ex-Arsenal ace Lucas) Torreira being good, Fred was also very good this week.

“He played a great game in both halves.”

Prior to last night, Fred had only missed 17 of the first 630 minutes in all competitions too, making himself an almost indispensable part of Kartal’s team sheet in double quick time.

The three points tonight saw the Istanbul giants overtake bitter rivals Galatasaray at the top of the table. A first Super Lig crown in almost a decade is beginning to feel like a very real possibility after nine long years of disappointment.

Fenerbahce could win the league at last

“Fred is slowly taking over the on-field management role at Fenerbahce,” explains Turkish publication Hurriyet, the Brazilian’s vast experience potentially a difference maker in a gruelling title fight.

“Fred, who produced two assists against Nordsjaelland during (last) week, is continuing his good performance.”

Fred’s 100 per cent record as a Fenerbahce player is destined to come to an end at some point over the coming weeks or months. But as long as this most glorious of starts continues, a player who won just one piece of silverware during his time at Manchester United could be forgiven for making room in his personal trophy cabinet for another medal or two.
