Kobbie Mainoo sends message to Manchester United fans

Manchester United wonderkid Kobbie Mainoo is making progress as he looks to return from a knee injury suffered in pre-season.

One of the many ‘what if’s around Manchester United’s awful start to the campaign centres around whether Kobbie Mainoo had not suffered an injury in pre-season.

And admittedly that sounds ridiculous, in the context that Mainoo has just one substitute appearance in the Premier League.

But 18-year-old Mainoo really is that good. The FA Youth Cup winning central midfielder was a class act in his brief appearances last season, and looked outstanding in pre-season before suffering a knee injury against Real Madrid.

Kobbie Mainoo makes progress on return

Kobbie Mainoo has not been named in the travelling Manchester United squad to face Bayern, he is not yet fit enough to make his return.

However, the teenager is making positive progress, and was seen at Carrington doing individual training on Tuesday.

United’s website detailed: “The 18-year-old took part in an individual light running exercise.”

Mainoo has now sent a brief message out to supporters on Instagram, expressing his excitement at moving a step closer to his return.

He wrote: “Been a long road back, not too far now.”

Midfield trio on the way back

Kobbie Mainoo is one of three Manchester United midfielders on the way back from varying injuries.

Mason Mount did train with the first team squad, however, he was not quite fit enough to make the travelling squad. He could feature against Burnley at the weekend.

Sofyan Amrabat is at the same stage as Mainoo. The Morocco international was doing individual training work, and is making his own progress towards his debut.
