Man Utd academy chief agrees 19-year-old has very high potential

Manchester United have a ‘very good player’ in teenager Isak Hansen-Aaroen with the Norwegian starlet looking to force his way into the Premier League picture under Erik ten Hag.

A stylish, swaggering presence on the pitch, the 19-year-old playmaker carries himself with a great deal of self-belief off it too.

In an interview with VG this week, Norway U21 international Isak Hansen-Aaroen spoke openly about his desire to follow in the fizzing footsteps of Alejandro Garnacho at Manchester United; ‘ready’ to stake his claim whenever Erik ten Hag calls upon him.

Isak Hansen-Aaroen has a big future at Manchester United

Nick Cox, the head of United’s academy, has watched Hansen-Aaroen’s development closely since his arrival from Tromso back in 2020.

And, speaking to Manchester United’s Norwegian podcast, Cox points out that – while the diminutive string-puller still has a long way to go – he would not have been picked up by the Red Devils in he was not a footballer of immense potential.

“He’s a very good player, because Manchester United only has very good players. All our players are wonderful players with high potential, and Isak is in that category,” Cox explains.

“I’m always really cautious about putting a spotlight on certain individuals because I believe there is enough pressure at this football club.

“He is a developing young player who has aspirations of establishing himself in the first-team. (But) there are a number of landmarks he has to strive to achieve; you want to train with the (first-team) squad, make your debut, make your first start, get a run of games.”

‘He is very comfortable’

Hansen-Aaroen is yet to force his way into Ten Hag’s senior set-up, but the opportunities afforded to Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo should act as an inspiration for a player who caught the eye with a typically pinpoint assist against Leeds United during a pre-season clash in Oslo.

“He had a good pass on the first goal,” Ten Hag told the Man United website in July. “You can see that he is very comfortable with the ball. He also had some nice jabs (passes) and showed good vision.

“He is, of course, a young player. (Hansen-Aaroen) has some small things to work on. But we want to tell him that, show him and then work with him to get the right movements.”
