Manchester United may well be in the market for a new right-sided forward following the issues the club have had with their current options.
With Jadon Sancho exiled and Antony spending time away from the club, Manchester United are a bit light in the forward line as the season is barely a month old.
One option has emerged for the Red Devils from Italian sources today and that is the star of the European Championships, which were held in 2021, Federico Chiesa.
According to a report from Calciomercato, United have an interest in the current Juventus forward, with a move floated for January.
Chiesa to replace Sancho
According to the report from the Italian outlet, United are targeting the Juventus forward to replace Sancho, who is seemingly out in the cold under Erik ten Hag.
The Italian side, however, are keen to extend the winger’s contract at the club so United may have to act fast if they do want Chiesa.
The Italian winger already has four goals in just six Serie A games this season, he has already bettered last season’s Serie A tally of just two goals with five assists.
Sancho does seem to be out of Ten Hag’s plans for the Red Devils as he still refuses to apologise with a resolution, seemingly, not in sight.
Would Chiesa join United
Calciomercato‘s report goes on to say that United would like the winger as early as January, although this does seem fanciful based on United’s recent January signings.
The report does seem to be tied in with Chiesa’s contract with Juventus wanting to offer the forward a new contract on the same salary as his previous deal.
Chiesa would certainly represent an exciting option for the Red Devils on that right-hand side but perhaps, instead of signing a new winger, Ten Hag may instead choose to place his trust in Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo, once the Ivorian returns from injury.
The report also claims the Italian side would want £50 million for the winger, which certainly seems unlikely in January.
