Manchester United have scouted Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini this week with an eye to signing him in 2024 or beyond.
United were busy in the summer transfer window, landing seven signings to bolster Erik ten Hag’s squad.
The attention is already turning to the 2024 windows though with United doing some scouting in the international break.
90Min report that United scouted Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini in action for Italy against Ukraine at the San Siro.
It’s believed that United have already scouted Scalvini on a number of occasions having already signed former teammate Rasmus Hojlund.
Scalvini played the full 90 minutes in a 2-1 Italy win and is already emerging as an important player for Luciano Spalletti’s side.
Who is Giorgio Scalvini?
Scalvini hails from Chiari in Brescia and started his career with AC Palazzolo before joining the Brescia ranks.
By the age of just 12, Scalvini was on the move as Atalanta pounced to sign him – and he has now made his way up to become a first-team regular.
The 19-year-old has already played more than 50 times for Atalanta and picked up six caps for Italy.
Scalvini is an imposing figure at 6ft 4in tall and whilst he is a centre back by trade, he has also played in holding midfield.
Scalvini has been earning rave reviews with Breaking The Lines stating that he has shades of Jaap Stam in his game.
Stam was a superb defender for United and Scalvini may yet follow in footsteps with a move to Old Trafford.
United could raid Atalanta again
If United decide to make a move to sign Scalvini in 2024, then it will mean raiding Atalanta for another top young talent.
Rasmus Hojlund only recently completed a big move from Atalanta to United, switching for £64million rising to £72million.
The pair featured prominently for Atalanta last season and we can only imagine that they will demand a similarly huge price for Scalvini.
Liverpool also want Scalvini but United may hope that a reunion with Hojlund can tempt him to Old Trafford over Anfield.
