Former Manchester United midfielder Charlie Savage has delivered a rather cutting putdown on his former employers.
Charlie Savage departed the club this summer and decided on a move to EFL League One side Reading.
The midfielder made his debut for the club against BSC Young Boys in an emotional moment for his dad Robbie Savage on commentary.
The former Manchester United man was seemingly deemed not good enough for the Red Devils by Erik ten Hag and went out on loan to Forest Green Rovers before departing the club.
Now the midfielder has had his say on the facilities at his new side and has seemingly compared them to those seen at Carrington.
Savage on the training facilities
Speaking to Reading’s YouTube channel, the former United man was very complimentary of the facilities of the Royals.
“Reading’s training ground- I heard it was good but I didn’t realise it was this good,” the 20-year-old said. “I would say it’s on par with United’s.”
In 2019, owner Dai Yongge splashed millions on refurbishing the club’s Bearwood training ground, so the facilities for the League One side are clearly great.
However, this is yet another sad indictment of just how far off the club are from some of the leading clubs in Europe.
United’s need for improvement
It is clear the facilities for United are simply not up to scratch. Whether it’s the training ground or Old Trafford itself, the club is in dire need of refurbishment and restructuring.
It seems there are plans for United to develop the stadium, according to the Manchester Evening News, but you wonder if, under the Glazer ownership, the Red Devils could afford such a big outlay.
Former United right-back Gary Neville has always worried about the club’s facilities.
“The Glazer family have, for years, been warned about a lack of investment in Old Trafford,” he said speaking to the Daily Mail.
Cristiano Ronaldo has, too, been very critical of the club’s training facilities, he said in an interview with Piers Morgan: “Nothing changed, surprisingly. Not only the pool, the jacuzzi, even the gym. Even the kitchen, the chefs, whom I appreciate — lovely people. They stopped in time. It surprised me a lot.
“I thought I would see other things, technologies and infrastructure. Unfortunately, we see a lot of what I used to see at 21, 22 and 23 years old. It really surprised me.”
It’s quite clear that the club need to move with the times and start acting like the big club that they claim to be.
