Tim Sherwood has told Marcus Rashford the cause of his poor form, and it is a theory Manchester United fans won’t be pleased by.
Marcus Rashford hasn’t been at his best this season so far, with just one goal in the campaign for Manchester United. Rashford has been slammed repeatedly for his below-par performances, most recently by Alan Shearer who criticised the English international’s ‘moody’ demeanour.
It says a lot about his season that so far the most notable moment is his sending-off against Copenhagen. Annoyingly for Rashford, the sending-off came as he was actually playing fairly well, only to then play poorly again against Luton Town.
Rashford’s latest outing saw a dismal display for England against Malta which ended early after he collided with Trent Alexander-Arnold, which sparked injury worries.
After that performance, the concern is that he has become un-pickable for Gareth Southgate, and now Tim Sherwood has sent Rashford a message.
Sherwood tells Rashford what he needs to do
Speaking on Saturday Social, Sherwood had some words for both Rashford and Erik ten Hag who he says is the cause of Rashford’s issues.
When asked about his views on whether Rashford deserves to be in the England squad, “No, not a chance,” he explained.
“And he can thank his manager for playing his way out of the England team, unfortunately. I think if he was at Man City now he’s got all the attributes to be a world-class player and make the team.
“I think there’s not going to be a turnaround between now and the end of the season, unfortunately. I think he can thank Ten Hag for that because it’s not been good enough.”
Rashford needs to find form
Rashford faces the prospect of his stock dropping rapidly in 2024 with Alejandro Garnacho breathing down his neck. Already he has been pushed over to the right by his junior teammate, but if he fails to perform there then the bench could await him.
This could then lead to non-selection from England next summer for the Euros potentially with several wingers in the running currently.
Rashford will be desperate to get his season on track and needs to put in the work to ensure he isn’t the subject of criticism next time there is an international break.
