Spanish giants now set to sign 20-year-old Man Utd starlet for free, says journalist

Manchester United have reportedly agreed to the departure of 20-year-old Colombian Mateo Mejia as Sevilla are set to complete a deal.

Carrington is filled to the brim with special talents and players who will go on to achieve great things in the game. So when a player doesn’t make it here, it’s hardly a slight on them but rather a testament to how competitive it is in the academy.

Now, there’s one player who’s about to head off for the next stage of his career with a transfer to Spain on the cards.

Mateo Mejia is a talented young forward who has knocked on the first team door at times in his Manchester United career since joining as a 16-year-old in 2019.

However, ultimately he never made it to the senior squad and now his spell at the club seems to be over according to Fabrizio Romano.

Mateo Mejia to depart Manchester United

Romano took to X on Saturday night to reveal exclusively that Mejia is about to leave United with Sevilla agreeing to a deal to sign the 20-year-old.

He continued to explain that the documents would be signed next week and the deal would be completed on a free transfer.

As his contract was due to expire in June, he was always going to be free but as he’s leaving before his contract expires, United will benefit.

Romano concluded by stating the Red Devils will have a 25 percent sell-on clause for Mejia which is a smart move as a precaution in case he ends up thriving.

This could be the first of two United gems Sevilla signs with Hannibal Mejbri also possibly making a loan move.

Mejia could end up being a bargain for Sevilla

This campaign, Mejia has had his best for United in the Premier League 2. He’s played nine times which have yielded eight goal contributions.

Three goals and five assists is his return this season and if this is anything to go off, he could yet become a phenomenal talent in Spain.

The 25 per cent clause could end up being a very smart move in the long run for United, but for free he could be a great coup for Sevilla.
