Manchester United are scouring the globe in search of centre-back signings, but Erik ten Hag’s top choice from 2023 could be available.
In the summer of 2023, one of Manchester United‘s priorities was a centre-back, but fast forward 12 months, it’s as prevalent an issue as ever.
Despite Erik ten Hag being keen on bringing a defender in, ultimately Jonny Evans was what he got. This leaves a centre-back on the agenda this summer.
Several names have been mentioned already with Antonio Silva, Giorgio Scalvini and Jarrad Branthwaite just three of the countless names mentioned.
But now, it seems Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the new Old Trafford footballing bosses have the chance to hand Ten Hag his number one target from last summer, Kim Min-Jae.
Here’s what’s happening with the South Korean international defender…
Kim Min-Jae’s transfer situation at Bayern Munich
Last summer, the then-Napoli league-winning centre-back Kim, was top of Ten Hag’s defensive targets list. Ultimately though, the defender opted to make a £43m move to Bayern Munich where things haven’t gone to plan.
Spending a lot of time on the bench for Thomas Tuchel, Kim has voiced his displeasure in a recent interview about his lack of game time which could open the door for United to return for him this summer.
Now, it’s been reported by FC Inter News that Inter Milan is considering offering Kim an exit from his situation at the Allianz Arena, and this simply cannot happen, United must step in.
If he’s considering an exit this summer, it’s a deal that Ratcliffe and co cannot miss out on as he’d be an incredible signing should he find his best form again.
Manchester United can’t let the opportunity to sign Kim Min-Jae pass them up again
So with Kim possibly on the move once again this summer, United must make him the big defensive addition that Ten Hag’s side is crying out for.
Despite a disappointing campaign for Bayern, Kim is still absolute quality and United would be blessed to have him alongside Lisandro Martinez.
Kim has previously been lauded as ‘extraordinary’ by a previous Old Trafford-based South Korean, Park Ji-Sung.
Atop of this, his former manager at Napoli Luciano Spalletti also raved about Kim, labelling him the ‘best centre-back in the world’ who does at least ’20 incredible things per game.’
Kim is the kind of player that United must be in for if he’s available, but we will have to wait until the summer to find out the real chances of this happening.
