Erik ten Hag’s former club Ajax are preparing to ‘target’ forgotten Man Utd star as part of loan deal this summer

Erik ten Hag’s former club Ajax are reportedly ready to make a move to sign a forgotten Manchester United first-team player in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United are shaking up Erik ten Hag’s first-team squad at Old Trafford in the first summer transfer window under the Ineos regime.

Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane both left Old Trafford at the end of the season after their respective United contracts expired this summer.

United have also offloaded several other players this summer, including the likes of Mason Greenwood, Donny van de Beek and Willy Kambwala.

Willy Kambwala was sold to Villarreal and Mason Greenwood signed for Marseille, while Donny van de Beek completed a move to La Liga club Girona.

United have been active in the transfer window amid their selling spree, with Netherlands striker Joshua Zirkzee signing for the Red Devils.

Following Joshua Zirkzee’s arrival from Bologna, United beat Real Madrid in the race to sign highly rated defender Leny Yoro from Ligue 1 outfit Lille.

Ajax want Erik ten Hag signing

According to TEAMtalk, Erik ten Hag’s former club Ajax could make a move for Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen.

Christian Eriksen arrived at Old Trafford in 2022 on a free transfer from Brentford and the Danish midfielder impressed in his first season under Ten Hag.

However, the 32-year-old United star’s influence in his second season at Old Trafford waned and Eriksen’s campaign was curtailed by a knee injury as well.

Eriksen managed 28 appearances across all competitions last season, with the Denmark international only making 12 Premier League starts in 22 matches.

The United midfielder started his career at Ajax and made a name for himself at the Dutch club before he signed for Tottenham in 2013.

Ajax are set to target Eriksen as part of a loan deal, with TEAMtalk reporting that the Dutch side would sign him permanently in 2025 once his contract expires.

However, TEAMtalk added that United could push for a sale this summer in the hopes of securing a fee for Eriksen.

Eriksen unhappy with Man Utd season

Christian Eriksen secured regular playing time for Denmark at Euro 2024 in Germany this summer, despite his limited appearances at United last season.

The United and Denmark midfielder previously admitted that he was disappointed with how much he played for the Red Devils in the 2023-24 season.

Speaking to Danish magazine Tipsbladet in March, Eriksen said: “I’ve said in the past that I’m not happy with not playing, but it’s not something I lose sleep over.

“The team performs and then I have to respect the role you have on the side.

“For me, it’s been working hard and focusing on being fresh for every game, and I am. It’s easier now to accept my role than it was before.”
