Besiktas’ board ‘vetoed’ move for Man Utd star under Erik ten Hag, they will not enter ‘any formal negotiations’

Super Lig outfit Besiktas have made it ‘clear they are not interested’ in one Manchester United star under Erik ten Hag, according to reports in Turkey.

Erik ten Hag has seen the arrival of new summer signings in the current window, with Manchester United signing both Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee.

The Red Devils have been linked with several other players this summer, including Bayern Munich duo Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt.

Alongside strengthening key positions in the United first team, Red Devils boss Ten Hag has seen several players leave Old Trafford this summer.

Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane, who has now signed for Serie A club Como, both left United at the end of the 2023-24 campaign after their contracts expired.

United have also sanctioned the sales of Mason Greenwood to Ligue 1 club Marseille and Willy Kambwala to La Liga side Villarreal this summer.

Donny van de Beek left Old Trafford and completed a move to La Liga club Girona, while Alvaro Fernandez signed for Primeira Liga side Benfica.

Besiktas rules out signing Man Utd player

According to Turkish Football, Besiktas have now made their feelings clear on Antony amid speculation linking the Manchester United star with the club.

Antony previously played under Erik ten Hag at Ajax and was reunited with the Dutchman in 2022 after his big-money move to Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old Brazilian winger, who was signed by United for an initial £81.3m fee from Ajax, has faced heavy criticism over his lacklustre spell at the Red Devils.

Antony picked up only one assist and scored once in 29 Premier League appearances last season, with the former Ajax star managing 15 league starts for United.

The Brazil international faces stiff competition out on the right wing, with Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo both vying for the position.

Turkish Football reports that Besiktas’ board ‘vetoed a move’ for Antony, despite intermediaries approaching United ‘regarding a potential move.’

The publication added that Besiktas’ board ‘have made it clear they are not interested’ in Antony and won’t be ‘entering any formal negotiations.’

Ten Hag talks Man Utd star Antony

Antony has been part of United’s pre-season tour this summer and the Brazil winger suffered a setback in the 3-2 win over Real Betis on Thursday.

The United star came off the bench and replaced Amad Diallo in the second half at the Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego.

Despite only coming on the pitch in the 62nd minute, Antony was forced to make way in the 86th minute due to injury and was replaced by Sam Mather.

Speaking from United’s training base at UCLA, Ten Hag shared an update on both Marcus Rashford and Antony after they picked up injuries against Real Betis.

“We have to wait,” he said at a press conference on Thursday, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“Of course, we don’t go into risk, into the last game of the tour, going into the season next week already, into an important game [against Manchester City].

“We are still within the 24 hours after a game, so the final assessment we have to make and we will see if they are ready for the final game on Saturday against Liverpool.”
