Manchester United will return from the September international break against Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium.
This will be the first meeting with Southampton since the 2022/23 season, it has been a ground where Manchester United have a good record.
Erik ten Hag’s United will be hoping to return from the international break with a victory following the Red Devils’ 3-0 loss to Liverpool at Old Trafford.
With that being said, here are the last five times that United have played the Saints on the South Coast in the Premier League.
Southampton 0-1 Manchester United (September 2022)
Ironically, the last time United played on the South Coast was also in September with a brilliant Bruno Fernandes goal enough for victory.
Ten Hag’s United had lost two on the spin to kick off the Dutchman’s Premier League reign but victories over Liverpool at Old Trafford and Southampton began the resurgence under the former Ajax boss.
After good work from Diogo Dalot on the right, the Portuguese defender whipped in a great ball and Fernandes was there to finish superbly.
Southampton 1-1 Manchester United (August 2021)
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United began the 2021/22 campaign with a 5-1 thumping of Leeds United before a frustrating draw to Southampton followed.
It was a drab performance from the Red Devils with none of that attacking flare that was on show against Leeds United.
Che Adams had opened the scoring with a deflected goal before Mason Greenwood equalised for the Red Devils in the second half.
Southampton 2-3 Manchester United (December 2020)
This game was a classic during a stage where it appeared United were clawing their way into a title race under Solskjaer.
Southampton had fired themselves into a two-goal lead thanks to a Jan Bednarek header and a James Ward-Prowse free-kick.
It was a stunning second-half comeback for the Red Devils with goals from Fernandes and two from substitute Edinson Cavani was enough for United to win on the South Coast.
Southampton 1-1 Manchester United (August 2019)
United seem to have a habit of playing the Saints early on in the season but this fixture was perhaps a rather uninspiring one.
Daniel James fired United ahead with a fantastic finish from the Welsh winger and that looked to be enough for all three points for Solskjaer’s side but it was a late Jannik Vestergaard header for the Saint which meant the points were shared.
Southampton 2-2 Manchester United (December 2018)
Adam Armstrong and Cedric Soares had fired the Saints into a two-goal lead before Romelu Lukaku halved the deficit and then a delightful flick from a Marcus Rashford cross by Ander Herrera levelled things up.
Jose Mourinho was the United manager at this stage and the pressure was beginning to grow on the Portuguese boss and it was results like this that eventually saw him lose his job later that month.
