'He inspired us': David Beckham only names one Man Utd teammate in dream five-a-side team, he picked a 'winner'

David Beckham is undeniably a Manchester United legend despite his early exit from the club that brought him to life.

The former Old Trafford No.7 was the first in a new breed of footballer, primed for the public eye – a mould which Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and now Jude Bellingham have taken inspiration from, partaking in various other avenues outside of football.

David Beckham however was also a mercurial talent for Manchester United and was also part of the iconic Class of ’92, the most successful year of academy graduates seen at Old Trafford.

Beckham went on the play for Real Madrid, AC Milan, LA Galaxy and also PSG in his career, sharing a locker room with some of the finest to ever play the game in the process.

So narrowing them down to just a five-a-side team is an incredibly difficult feat.

David Beckham names dream five-a-side team from his career teammates

After a career like Beckham had, the list of his former teammates is truly astonishing and includes some of the best to ever grace football.

Rio Ferdinand has now asked him to name a dream five-a-side team – excluding a goalkeeper – while Beckham was appearing on the Rio Presents podcast.

When Beckham named Keane, Ferdinand asked him to explain just how brilliant a player the Irishman was.

“I’m going to say Keaney [Keane]. You need a leader and you need someone that is actually going to tackle and fight and be the player that he is.

“He took no day off and I don’t mean in the physical sense of having a day off, I mean every single day that he stepped onto the training pitch, he wanted to win. Whether it was at the keep ball game or the heading game.

“He inspired us every single day because we all knew that, ‘that’s what we have to cope with, that’s the level we have to reach. That’s why Keaney was who he was because he was a winner who was hungry and who always wanted to win.”

Beckham snubs some Manchester United greats

In naming his five-a-side team, Beckham will have upset some people – despite the quality of those named being absolutely top tier.

Excluding the likes of Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Dennis Irwin and Rio Ferdinand himself will surely leave some United fans gobsmacked. This along with the admission of the player he played his most games with, Gary Neville.

That being said, there is not a single name on this list which can be labelled out of place – and if there was to only be one United name included, we would likely also have chosen Keane.

Beckham had the luxury of playing with the likes of Zidane and Ronaldo – so it is obvious he would choose them when given the chance as they are top 10 players of all time.
