Man Utd fans all saying same thing about Bruno Fernandes after performance vs Wolves, one ‘insane’ difference is now clear

Manchester United fans dropped their telling verdicts on Bruno Fernandes after the Portugal midfielder’s performance against Wolves in the Premier League clash on Thursday evening.

The Red Devils took a major blow ahead of Christmas after Bournemouth inflicted a devastating 3-0 Premier League defeat at Old Trafford last Sunday.

Manchester United travelled away to the Molineux for their Premier League match on Boxing Day and Ruben Amorim’s men have endured a poor run of form.

Ahead of the Wolves clash, the Red Devils had only won two of their last five Premier League matches and suffered three league defeats in recent weeks.

United endured a disastrous start to the 2024-25 Premier League season under Erik ten Hag before the Dutchman was axed by the Red Devils in late October.

Ruben Amorim replaced ex-United manager Erik ten Hag in the Old Trafford dugout in November and the former Sporting boss has a massive challenge ahead of him.

Fernandes starts for Man Utd vs Wolves

Bruno Fernandes retained the Manchester United captaincy under Ruben Amorim and he appears to be part of the Red Devils manager’s long-term plans.

Amorim has deployed the 30-year-old United skipper in different positions in his tactical system, including as one of the two No 10s or in central midfield.

Fernandes was deployed out on the left against Wolves as one of the two No 10s, with Rasmus Hojlund leading the frontline and Amad Diallo as the other No 10.

The Portugal and United midfielder failed to inject his influence into the match in a meaningful way in the first half at the Molineux on Thursday.

United and Wolves went into half-time with a 0-0 scoreline before a disastrous start to the second half for Fernandes.

Fernandes was booked in the first half and the Portugal international was sent off only minutes into the second half after picking up a second booking.

Man Utd fans react to Fernandes’ performance vs Wolves

United fans on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, pulled no punches towards Fernandes after his calamitous performance against Wolves.

Red Devils supporters claimed that Fernandes looked “lost” for United in Amorim’s system and he stuck out “like a sore thumb” with his performance on the pitch.

United fans also felt that Fernandes’ performance lacked the “insane” output produced by Matheus Cunha, who has been heavily linked with the Red Devils.

“Bruno Fernandes does not fit into this system – he ruins the entire left side of the attack,” one fan said.

Another X user wrote: “Bruno Fernandes has been outrageous… he’s lost in this system.”

Somebody else claimed: “Cunha is busy getting fouled but Bruno is busy giving away fouls and ultimately getting sent off. If that doesn’t speak volumes of these players, I don’t know what does.”

“Before United leave for Manchester, can we swap Bruno Fernandes for Matheus Cunha?” a fourth asked.

While a fifth posted: “Bruno and Cunha are playing the same position but the difference between them is insane. I said it but people acted like I was being reactionary. Bruno in this system just isn’t working.”

Another suggested: “Cunha is doing what Bruno should be doing! But he’s too slow, doesn’t even take players on! He cannot play the system. I would easily have Cunha over him.”

“Bruno has no place in this team, unfortunately. He’s just not meant for this system,” a seventh fan added.

Someone else simply tweeted: “Bruno sticks out like a sore thumb in this system.”
