Manchester United have waved goodbye to Dan Ashworth and may look to raid a top La Liga club for his potential replacement.
Manchester United fans were subjected to a pretty dismal 3-2 defeat at the hands of Nottingham Forest on Saturday evening.
Ruben Amorim has now suffered back-to-back defeats having also lost 2-0 at Arsenal in midweek.
As if this wasn’t bad enough, United fans had been hit with a development to spark questions over the future under Ineos.
Dan Ashworth has now left United by mutual consent mere months after being appointed as sporting director.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is unhappy about United’s summer business and Ashworth has now departed in a baffling turn of events.
Manchester United eye Dan Ashworth replacement
Ineos pursued Ashworth intently and United paid £2.5million in compensation to get Ashworth out of Newcastle United over the summer.
Ashworth leaving just months into his job is alarming and leaves United fans with more questions than answers.
Jason Wilcox and Christopher Vivell could step up to help fill the void but United may also look to outside options.
Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio reports that United are looking into a move for Atletico Madrid’s Andrea Berta.
Di Marzio notes that Berta is set to leave Atletico at the end of the season having spent more than a decade with the club.
The Italian has previously been with Parma and Genoa but has been a key cog in Diego Simeone’s machine with Atletico.
Berta was linked with United last year and Ineos are seemingly still interested in luring him to Old Trafford.
Who has Andrea Berta signed at Atletico Madrid?
Berta has made some big additions for Atletico over the years, making them a force not just in La Liga but also in Europe.
Jan Oblak, Antoine Griezmann, Yannick Carrasco, Rodri, Marcos Llorente, Joao Felix and Rodrigo De Paul have been snapped up by Berta and Atletico over the years.
Atletico struck some big deals this past summer too with Robin Le Normand, Alexander Sorloth, Julian Alvarez and Conor Gallagher all arriving.
Berta has also sold incredibly well, with nine of their 10 record sales have come during Berta’s time at the club.
Griezmann, Rodri and Felix feature alongside Lucas Hernandez, Thomas Partey, Matheus Cunha, Radamel Falcao, Jackson Martinez and Diego Costa.
United do need to become a little stronger in terms of player trading and Ineos may believe that he can be the ideal replacement after Ashworth’s abrupt exit.
