It has been a rocky start for Ruben Amorim at Manchester United, but the newly appointed head coach has managed to identify improvements in our performances since taking charge.
Manchester United remain unbeaten in Europe but our league form has yet to pick up, with the Reds currently positioned 13th in the Premier League.
Amorim has been tasked with turning things around at Old Trafford after Erik ten Hag was sent his marching orders last month.
It can take time for a new head coach to implement his methods and that is why fans need to be patient with Amorim.
However, after such a slow start to the season, United need to start winning matches, or they can forget about finishing in the top four.
United travel to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, when they take on Manchester City in the derby. A defeat could leave the Reds closer to the relegation zone than the top four spots.
Amorim happy with United’s transitional play
Amorim has had less than a month with his new squad to familiarise himself with the Premier League. It was always going to take time with a degree of patience required whenever a new coach tries to implement their preferred style of play.
Although United are making hard work of winnable games, after losing 3-2 against Nottingham Forest and coming from behind to beat Viktoria Plzen 2-1 in the Europa League, Amorim has noticed an improvement in the first team’s transitional play.
Speaking to reporter at his press conference on Friday evening, Amorim said: “I think they are improving.
“And if you see the transitions, you see that I think we are improving on the speed.
“Sometimes, we cannot do it still, but we are trying and I can feel it in the team.”
Amorim must improve results
The biggest improvement needed right now is results.
United got back to winning ways against Viktoria Plzen on Thursday, but now the focus must be on getting a similar result against the blue side of Manchester.
The Reds losing 2-0 against Arsenal came as a blow because two of their goals came from avoidable corner kicks. Matters were made worse for Amorim when United lost 3-2 against Nottingham Forest a week later.
