Harry Maguire’s Manchester United career may have been saved by Ruben Amorim’s arrival.
It seemed inevitable that Harry Maguire would leave Manchester United in 2025 after he tumbled down the pecking order at Old Trafford.
The 31-year-old came close to leaving when United accepted a £30m bid for Maguire from West Ham only for the move to collapse late on.
He is set to become a free agent in the summer when his contract expires, but Maguire has held “positive” talks over a new deal.
Ruben Amorim has praised Maguire’s attitude and appears to be a big admirer of the English defender having called him a “perfect” fit for his 3-4-3 formation.
Harry Maguire urges Man United to be ‘aggressive’
Matthijs de Ligt has missed the last three games for United, which has forced Maguire to step up in the heart of defence.
After making three consecutive starts in the Premier League, Maguire could captain United in their next match against Newcastle on Monday evening with Bruno Fernandes suspended after his red card.

As Maguire and United look to end a run of three consecutive defeats, he has emphasised the importance of being “aggressive” in defence.
Speaking to MUTV, Maguire said: “One of the most important things as a defender is being aggressive, not being passive, being aggressive with the opponent, being aggressive in the line that you take as it enables others to push up the pitch.
“Really playing on the front foot, making interceptions, winning duels, keeping the opponent in their half.
“I think all those are really important, especially in today’s modern game, to enable yourselves to have a good performance through the team and to get the result that you want.”
Why Ruben Amorim will love Harry Maguire’s latest comments
When United lost 2-0 to Wolves on Thursday evening, it was the first time Amorim has lost three consecutive matches in his entire managerial career.
After the full-time whistle, he claimed that his United side “lack a little bit of aggression”. It seems Maguire agrees with that conclusion after his latest comments.
Against Newcastle, the Red Devils will face one of the most intense sides in the league who will fight for every ball. United cannot afford to be as passive as they were against Wolves.
Maguire brings physicality, aggression and passing ability – three things Ruben Amorim will want from his players on Monday evening.
