Ruben Amorim could watch Luke Shaw or Tyrell Malacia be offloaded from Old Trafford as part of Manchester United’s bid to sign one Premier League player, according to reports.
Luke Shaw has missed a large majority of Manchester United’s 2024-25 season so far and the 29-year-old left-back has only managed three appearances for his side.
The United defender featured for England at Euro 2024 last summer, but Shaw’s run in the current campaign with the Red Devils has been disrupted due to injuries.
Shaw is under contract with the Premier League club until 2027 and it remains unclear where the player fits into Ruben Amorim’s long-term plans at United.
Tyrell Malacia, meanwhile, missed the entirety of the 2023-24 Premier League campaign for United after undergoing an operation on his knee.
The 25-year-old Dutch left-back made his long-awaited return for United in the current season and Malacia has played six matches across all competitions.
Malacia was signed by former United manager Erik ten Hag from Dutch side Feyenoord in 2022 and the defender has often played second fiddle to Shaw.
The Netherlands international is under contract until 2026 and has often struggled to secure regular first-team minutes at United amid his injury-hit spell at Old Trafford.
Man Utd to use Shaw or Malacia in deal
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has already hinted that he will have to wait until the summer to see any major signings arrive at Old Trafford.
The 39-year-old Portuguese manager has already implemented his tactical system at United, despite not having the necessary players to suit his blueprint.
However, Amorim is widely tipped to make sweeping changes to the United first-team squad after he succeeded Erik ten Hag as United manager in 2024.
According to CaughtOffside, United could now use Luke Shaw or Tyrell Malacia as a potential makeweight for Wolves star Rayan Ait-Nouri.
Man Utd to target Wolves defender Rayan Ait-Nouri
Rayan Ait-Nouri is capable of playing as a left-back or as a left wing-back, with the latter option being a key attribute for Amorim’s tactical formation at United.
The 23-year-old Wolves defender has been at the Molineux since 2020 initially as part of a loan spell before making the move permanent from Angers in 2021.
CaughtOffside reports that Premier League strugglers Wolves could allow Ait-Nouri to leave the club for a transfer fee of around ‘€55 to €60m.’
Ait-Nouri is out of contract with Wolves in 2026 and CaughtOffside claims the inclusion of Shaw or Malacia in a deal would bring the ‘price tag down.’
However, the publication added that it ‘remains to be seen’ if Wolves would be open to the deal with United and could wait until the summer to sell Ait-Nouri.
