Manchester United could have received a major boost in their pursuit of a new striking option for manager Ruben Amorim, according to stunning reports in Italy.
Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have been met with heavy criticism in the 2024-25 campaign over their respective lack of goalscoring output for the Red Devils.
Joshua Zirkzee arrived from Serie A outfit Bologna last summer and the 23-year-old Dutch forward has netted only five times in 38 matches for Manchester United.
Rasmus Hojlund, on the other hand, is in his second season at Old Trafford and the 22-year-old Danish forward has looked a shadow of his former self in the final third.
The United striker has not scored since the start of 2025 and Hojlund has found the back of the net seven times in 33 matches across all competitions this season.

Man Utd target’s potential transfer fee
Ruben Amorim is widely tipped to reinforce key positions in his Manchester United first-team squad once the summer transfer window opens.
The 40-year-old United manager could bring a new striking option to Old Trafford amid the goalscoring woes of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.
United have previously been linked with Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic and the Serbian forward could be available at a discount asking price.
Dusan Vlahovic will be out of contract next summer and Juventus are considering offloading the Fiorentina and Partizan man before his deal expires in 2026.
Tutto Juve reports that the 25-year-old Serbian is earning €12m per year as part of his salary and Juventus think they can ‘earn at least 35 million’ from a transfer.
Juventus had previously valued Vlahovic up to €70m in 2023, but the Old Lady have slashed the Serbia international’s asking price amid his current contract situation.
Vlahovic has attracted interest from other clubs in Europe, with both La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid and Premier League side Arsenal in the race to sign him.
Amorim on January transfer window
Amorim’s major signing for United in the January transfer window came in the form of wing-back Patrick Dorgu’s arrival at Old Trafford earlier this month.
The United manager admitted that there was a “risk” not making more signings outside of Ayden Heaven from Arsenal and Patrick Dorgu from Lecce.
Speaking after the transfer window closed earlier this month, Amorim said: “We are taking a risk but we want a different thing in the team, different profiles. It was my decision to do that.
“What I feel is that the club is taking its time. We know the urgency of the moment of the team [but] everybody here does not want to make the same mistakes of the past.
“In the summer, we will see but like I said we are being really careful with transfers because we [made] some mistakes in the past.”
