'Priority targets'... Fabrizio Romano shares update on the four positions he’s convinced Man Utd will sign players this summer

Manchester United are set to have a busy summer transfer window as Ineos aim to overhaul the squad.

After a busy transfer window in January, the summer is expected to be even more chaotic for Ineos as they gear up for a second off-season at the helm of the club.

Plenty of incomings and outgoings are expected at the club, with Manchester United looking to overhaul a team which has severely underperformed this season.

Despite financial concerns, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has confirmed United will have the cash to spend this summer, something that will be music to the ears of Ruben Amorim who will be desperate for additions.

United will have plenty of upheaval in the squad this summer, with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Casemiro and Antony likely to permanently leave. While four United players will leave for free.

Now, the club’s priorities to strengthen have been outlined.

Manchester United’s four priority positions this summer

When looking at the Manchester United line-up and bench, a number of positions stand out as needing to be strengthened this summer, with the squad as it is not fit for purpose.

With plenty of work to do, Fabrizio Romano has now outlined the positions that United are keen to strengthen this summer.

Romano explains meetings have begun to determine United’s summer business with four positions emerging as needing reinforcement.

“We understand that during those initial conversations – similar to what happened in December with Ruben Amorim indicating left wing-back as a crucial position to cover in January and then Patrick Dorgu arrived – Man United directors and the manager have also started to discuss the possibility of bringing in one more centre-back in the summer transfer window.

“United are seriously considering bringing in one more centre-back to play with a back three as Amorim wants to do for the long-term project.”

Romano then continued to explain the other three areas which will be prioritised.

“Even during the recent meetings, Man United remain convinced about the priority targets including a new striker and at least one more offensive player to play behind the number nine next season, while in midfield there could also be movements with an exit for Casemiro expected to happen in the summer.”

Interestingly, this does not include a right wing-back, which suggests that this might only happen if United manage to sell Diogo Dalot.

How Manchester United’s XI could look with four priorities strengthened

With these four positions which United are set to prioritise, many of the big problems United are currently facing would be fixed.

But who should be signed for each position?

Centre-back

In defence, United currently have a strong group of players, but with the exits of Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof expected, an addition will arrive.

Yusuf Akcicek from Fenerbahce is one very exciting option, with a price tag of around £10m tipped, it would be another Ineos master class if he joined.

Jose Mourinho has compared Akcicek to Raphael Varane, and he would be a strong option to reinforce the current crop of players.

Midfielder

In central midfield, United have been linked with several options.

Some are youngsters with plenty of potential such as Chris Rigg, while the club have also been looking into Atalanta’s Ederson who would be an expensive addition.

Attacking midfielder

United are in desperate need of attacking additions, with several exciting players linked with the club.

United have been showing an interest in Francisco Trincao from Sporting, while multiple others are being considered although it is safe to assume Ineos are evaluating options yet to be linked.

Striker

In the striking department, United need to get it right after two signings failed to solve the number nine problem for the club.

Victor Osimhen is seen as a top target by United, while there is also a chance United go for a slightly left-field option instead such as Liam Delap.
