Ruben Amorim has abysmal record in key area, it already got two Premier League managers sacked

Manchester United’s attack has been misfiring all season long, with the goal record the biggest concern around the club.

Under the management of both Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim, goals have been hard to come by for Manchester United this season.

After 27 games in the league, the Red Devils have scored just 33 goals which is an appalling record that only five other teams in the league have less than.

Due to the scoring record this season, United are set to target a new striker this summer in order to ensure goals, which Rasmus Hojlund has now done.

The Dane is not alone though, with his teammates also not contributing enough goals or assists, with Amorim’s record in one area absolutely abysmal.

Ruben Amorim’s bench is letting him down at Manchester United

This season there has been a distinct lack of goals being created or scored from the bench – particularly under Amorim.

According to a study from BBC Sport, it has been revealed that since Amorim’s arrival, there has only been one instance of a substitution resulting in a goal involvement.

This came in the form of a Christian Eriksen assist against Southampton back in January.

To put into context just how bad this record is, the only two managers to have experienced this have both since been sacked with both Gary O’Neil and Sean Dyche having the same record before being replaced.

This will make grim reading for Amorim, but when looking at his bench, it is not exactly packed with goals. Often Chido Obi is the only attacker and he is only finding his feet in professional football.

Ineos need to fix this issue in the summer getting Amorim a group of talented attacking players.

Erik ten Hag sold Scott McTominay he would have fixed the goal issue

During the 2022/23 season, United had a record of 19 goals from substitutes which was more than any other club in Europe.

This was a huge benefit for Ten Hag at the time, and last season he also benefitted from bench contributions mainly through Scott McTominay – who was sold in the summer.

McTominay is tailormade for Amorim and having the Scottish international in the squad would have been invaluable – as he continues to prove his worth to Napoli in Italy.

This is the kind of player Amorim needs to have added in the summer for next season. Ineos have an awful lot of work to do.
