Man Utd fans all saying same thing about Leny Yoro after performance vs Lyon in Europa League, ‘elite’ claim made

Manchester United fans could not have been clearer with their feelings about Leny Yoro after Ruben Amorim’s side faced Lyon in the Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday.

The Red Devils were in France last Thursday for their first-leg quarter-final encounter against Lyon in the Europa League at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais.

Manchester United came from 1-0 down against Lyon and the Red Devils were in the lead in the dying stages of the match against the French side in Decines-Charpieu.

But Andre Onana committed two costly howlers against the Ligue 1 outfit and the United star’s mistake in second-half injury time allowed Lyon to find an equaliser.

Following on from United and Lyon’s 2-2 draw at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais, the Red Devils travelled to St James’ Park for their Premier League clash with Newcastle.

However, Ruben Amorim’s men were outclassed last Sunday and Premier League side Newcastle inflicted a 4-1 thumping of United at St James’ Park.

United immediately turned their attention to Thursday evening, with the Red Devils resuming their 2024-25 Europa League campaign against Lyon for the return-leg tie.

Leny Yoro has become a key Manchester United first-team player in the 2024-25 campaign and the former Lille defender is really coming into his own at the Red Devils.

The 19-year-old Frenchman has been in strong form in recent weeks and Leny Yoro has become a perfect fit for Ruben Amorim’s tactical system at United.

United fans on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, had their say on Yoro’s performance against Lyon at Old Trafford in the Europa League.

“Leny Yoro is worth every penny we spent on him and more,” one fan said.

Somebody else added: “Leny Yoro is a Rolls-Royce of a defender.”

What happened in Man Utd vs Lyon at Old Trafford in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals?

United took control of the Europa League quarter-finals after Manuel Ugarte broke the deadlock in the 10th minute at Old Trafford on Thursday evening.

Alejandro Garnacho produced a sensational touch while inside the Lyon box before the United winger pulled the ball back into the path of an unmarked Manuel Ugarte.

Ruben Amorim’s men looked more comfortable in the first half against Lyon and the Red Devils extended their lead at Old Trafford ahead of half-time.

Diogo Dalot was picked out by Harry Maguire from a long-range pass and the United full-back held off Nicolas Tagliafico before he fired a low shot past Lucas Perri.

United wasted in building on their advantage and Lyon fought back in the second half and pulled one back through Corentin Tolisso in the 71st minute.

The Red Devils’ lead evaporated only six minutes after Corentin Tolisso scored, with Nicolas Tagliafico finding the back of the net and pulling Lyon level with United.

Lyon were reduced to 10 men in the 89th minute after Tolisso was sent off and the Europa League tie was forced to extra time after the 2-2 scoreline in regular playing time.

Lyon then stunned United in the first half of extra time after Rayan Cherki slotted a superb strike past Andre Onana and put the 10-man French side 3-2 up on the night.

Alexandre Lacazette converted from the spot-kick in the second half of extra time before Bruno Fernandes scored a penalty for United only five minutes later.

Kobbie Mainoo came off the bench late in the second half and scored for United to put his side 4-4 before Harry Maguire found the winner in injury time in extra time.
