Jamie Carragher ruthlessly told not to ‘dismiss’ Man Utd-linked attacker who ’caused problems for opponents all season’

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has been called out over his remarks on one Manchester United target ahead of the summer transfer window opening.

The summer window will be open from 1st June and will initially stay open until 10th June before closing ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup starting on 15th June.

Following the early summer window, the transfer market will open up again on 16th June and will run until 1st September, which will close at 7pm UK time.

Ruben Amorim is expected to see new arrivals at Old Trafford in his first summer transfer window as Manchester United manager as part of a major squad rebuild.

The 40-year-old Red Devils boss inherited his United first-team squad last November after he left Sporting CP and replaced Erik ten Hag in the Old Trafford dugout.

Former United manager Erik ten Hag was sacked by the Premier League club last October after the Red Devils’ poor start to the 2024-25 league campaign.

Paul Parker hits back at Jamie Carragher over Liverpool legend’s comments on Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap amid Man Utd interest

Liam Delap has been linked with Manchester United and Old Trafford has been tipped as one potential destination for the Ipswich Town striker.

The Ipswich player has sparked interest in recent months and is now available for £30m in the summer after his relegation release clause activated.

Kieran McKenna’s men were relegated from the Premier League in the 2024-25 campaign and Chelsea and United are among the clubs interested in Liam Delap.

Delap made 40 appearances for Ipswich across all competitions and he scored 12 times in 37 Premier League matches for Kieran McKenna’s relegated side.

The United-linked player has been at Portman Road since last summer after the Tractor Boys signed him from Manchester City in a deal worth up to £20m.

Paul Parker took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, and made his feelings clear on Jamie Carragher’s remarks over a Delap move to United.

“More money spent [on] another overseas player where there is no guarantee,” he wrote.

“But an Englishman and a young one at that, who has been the best player in a team that struggled to score goals, when he has scored and caused problems for opponents all season, let’s dismiss him.”

What exactly did Jamie Carragher say about Ipswich Town player Liam Delap signing for Man Utd?

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football last week, Carragher suggested that Liam Delap should leave Ipswich Town and sign for Everton ahead of United.

“I don’t think he should go to Man United,” he said, as per the Liverpool Echo.

“I just think what happened to [Rasmus] Hojlund. You’re going from a team who were relegated to – and I know Man United are 16th – but it’s Man United, one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“The eyes and ears of the world are on you. I just think that is such a big step. You might say it’s from there to there in terms of league position, but Man United is a monster.”

Carragher added: “I do. I just think that the next step of… [at] Everton, you’re going to play every week, feel like the main man, one of the best players in the team.

“He’s one of the best players in the team at Ipswich and everything goes through him.

“Go to another club where you are that for two years, then go to that Man United sort of team, sort of Champions League or competing for that sort of level.”

The Red Devils ended their lacklustre campaign in 15th place in the Premier League table after United sealed a 2-0 win over Aston Villa on the final day of the season.
