Man United star did something 'inconceivable' vs West Ham, 31-touch display is unforgivable

Manchester United have now gone seven straight Premier League games without a win following the defeat to West Ham.

Once again, the Red Devils suffered a Europa League hangover. Just days after booking their spot in the final, they returned to the Premier League with a 2-0 defeat to West Ham.

Despite dominating possession, United were toothless going forward and goals from Tomas Soucek and Jarrod Bowen gave the Hammers their first win at Old Trafford for 18 years.

United fans questioned Kobbie Mainoo’s position during the defeat, but one of his teammates dropped a complete horror show against West Ham.

Rasmus Hojund’s ‘inconceivable’ miss vs West Ham

Ruben Amorim raised a few eyebrows with his team selection to face the Hammers, with much of the fanbase expecting Chido Obi to start up front.

However, Rasmus Hojlund kept his spot in the side just days after he scored against Athletic Club.

The 22-year-old has struggled all season in the Premier League, with just four goals in 30 appearances. Against West Ham, he certainly had an afternoon to forget.

Unlike other matches this season, there can be no complaints about a lack of service, with Hojlund missing several chances to get the Red Devils back into the match.

In the second half, the ball fell to Hojlund inside the six-yard box but his relaxed effort was saved by Alphonse Areola.

Speaking via MUTV, Hojlund was slammed for the miss by Ben Thornley: “He’s got to score. It’s inconceivable that he missed from there.”

Amorim has defended Hojlund during his terrible run of form this season, but his performance on Sunday was inexcusable.

Data provided by SofaScore exposes just how poor Hojlund was in and out of possession at Old Trafford.

Hojlund played the entire 90 minutes, meaning academy star Obi was denied another appearance in the Premier League this season.

United had 20 shots against the Hammers and Hojlund took six of those, amassing an xG (expected goals) of 1.31. However, his poor finishing let him down.

He took 31 touches of the ball but only completed nine passes, losing possession 13 times throughout his performance.

Holding up play has been something Hojlund has struggled with all season and he only won seven of his 22 total duels against the Hammers.
