Ruben Amorim’s ruthless Man Utd machine warns Athletic Club of his monster ‘mentality’ ahead of Europa League showdown

A key first-team Manchester United player under Ruben Amorim has spoken out about his determination to win ahead of the Europa League tie against Athletic Club.

Ruben Amorim’s men resume their Europa League campaign on Thursday evening with their crucial second-leg Europa League semi-final encounter at Old Trafford.

Manchester United beat 10-man Athletic Club last Thursday in the first leg and the Red Devils now hold a key advantage for the return leg in the Europa League.

Following United’s 3-0 scoreline against Athletic Club in Bilbao, Amorim’s Red Devils side returned to Premier League action last Sunday against Brentford.

Brentford hosted United in the Premier League at the Gtech Community Stadium and Thomas Frank’s men secured a 4-3 win over the Red Devils on the weekend.

United manager Amorim will no doubt be keen to see his side bounce back in their Europa League campaign after United’s setback against Brentford in Sunday’s result.

The Red Devils are within touching distance of the 2025 Europa League final and United need to lift the trophy to ensure their place in Europe next season.

The Europa League would offer Amorim his first piece of major silverware as United boss and the Red Devils could secure Champions League football for next season.

Casemiro sends a clear-cut message ahead of Man Utd’s second-leg Europa League semi-final clash vs Athletic Club

Casemiro has seen a resurgence in form at Old Trafford under Ruben Amorim and the former Real Madrid star has impressed in the 2024-25 Europa League run.

The 33-year-old Brazilian midfielder picked up a hat-trick of assists in United’s sensational 5-4 comeback win over Lyon in the second leg of the quarter-finals.

Casemiro also impressed United fans against La Liga club Athletic Club after the former Real Madrid player found the back of the net at the San Mames Stadium.

Speaking to United Review, the Brazil international spoke about his desire to win more silverware, despite his incredible five Champions League title wins already.

“I have won what I have won,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.

But I always want more. I always want to earn it, to win, that is the winning mentality.

“People only see the 90 minutes, I always say ‘the matches are the reflection of what you do every day’ and that is me – always working.”

Casemiro speaks about his mentality ahead of Man Utd vs Athletic Club in the Europa League at Old Trafford

Casemiro touched on his desire to see United win and insisted that his mentality is summed up by helping in any role that he can for the Red Devils.

“Whether I play or don’t play, I am there every day,” he continued.

“That is me as a person, that is me. Whether I play or not – all I want is for United to win.

“If United win, I am winning. The most important is that United win. It is not about me winning or another player winning, it is about United winning.

“I want to help in any way I can, I will be there. This is my mentality. That is why I have won what I have won in my career.”

United and Athletic Club’s second-leg Europa League semi-final showdown is slated for an 8pm kick-off time in the UK on Thursday.
