Thomas Tuchel's key England call has done biggest favour of all for Ruben Amorim and Man Utd – opinion

England manager Thomas Tuchel might have handed Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim the best boost possible heading into the tail end of 2025.

The 52-year-old German head coach announced his 25-man England squad for the Three Lions’ upcoming international fixtures during the November break.

England’s official website confirmed the news on Friday, with on-loan Red Devils forward Marcus Rashford keeping his place in the Three Lions squad.

Marcus Rashford, who left Old Trafford in the summer and signed for Barcelona on loan, has been able to turn around his fortunes at the Camp Nou this season.

The 28-year-old Barcelona summer signing will now link up with his England teammates for the forthcoming matches against Serbia and Albania in November.

But Rashford is the only Manchester United player to make the England squad, with the likes of Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount and Harry Maguire all left out.

Thomas Tuchel snubs Mason Mount for an England call-up, despite the Man Utd star’s run of form

Mason Mount had been tipped for an England return and a potential reunion with former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel in the November international break.

However, Tuchel has decided against calling up Manchester United No 7 Mount, who had enjoyed an impressive run of form under the German at Stamford Bridge.

Mount has endured an injury-hit spell at Old Trafford since United agreed to pay an initial £55m to sign him from Premier League side Chelsea in 2023.

However, the 26-year-old former England international has impressed this season under Ruben Amorim, who is a big fan of what Mount can offer him in the attack.

Mount has netted once and registered an assist for the Red Devils in eight Premier League matches across all competitions in the 2025-26 campaign.

Despite not putting up major goalscoring numbers or assists this season, Mount’s role in Ruben Amorim’s tactical system for United has been as clear as day.

Thomas Tuchel leaving Mason Mount out of his 25-man England squad could work better for Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim

The key with Mount for United manager Amorim is keeping the former Chelsea ace fit at all costs, with the Red Devils star finally coming into his own this season.

England have already qualified for the 2026 World Cup in North America and the last thing United fans want to see is Mount pick up a needless injury during the break.

The World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Albania could have been the right time for Tuchel to bring Mount back into the England fold ahead of the World Cup.

But Tuchel’s loss is to United’s benefit and Red Devils boss Amorim can continue to work on getting the best out of an injury-free Mount in the post-November break.

Amorim is expected to lose Bryan Mbeumo to the start of the Africa Cup of Nations next month and he cannot afford to lose Mount to injury during that time as well.
