Bruno Fernandes demanded apology from referee now confirmed for Man United vs Tottenham

The Premier League have confirmed the referee appointment for Manchester United’s upcoming clash against Tottenham.

Michael Carrick will be hoping to make it four wins from four in his spell as Manchester United interim head coach when Tottenham visit Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

So far, Carrick has proven he can beat world-class managers, and his next task is to face another ‘Big Six’ competitor in the Premier League.

The Red Devils have already climbed to fourth in the Premier League table, and that is in spite of United’s terrible luck this season.

Several VAR decisions have gone against United, and Carrick will hope to avoid more of the same on Saturday. However, the referee appointment is sure to cause controversy.

Michael Oliver appointed for Man United vs Tottenham

The Premier League have confirmed that Michael Oliver will be the referee for Saturday’s Premier League clash.

Mark Clattenburg called Oliver the ‘best referee’ in the Premier League, but United fans may have bleak memories of matches under him, especially against Tottenham.

Back in 2023, United lost 2-0 to Tottenham and Oliver made a controversial decision to deny United a penalty for a handball offence by Cristian Romero.

As per Sky Sports, United captain Bruno Fernandes actually demanded an apology from match officials for the mistake.

“I want to see if they come to apologise to our dressing room like they said he did to the manager of Wolves,” Fernandes said.

Michael Oliver record in charge of Man United matches

Oliver is now into his 16th year as a Premier League referee, and he has overseen a total of 49 Manchester United matches in that time.

As per Transfermarkt, United have won just 19 of the matches officiated by Oliver, drawing 13 and losing 17.

Interestingly, Oliver has shown a total of 102 yellow cards to United players, and has shown a red card on five occasions – that is more than any other team he has officiated.

In 2025/26, Oliver has refereed two United matches. The Red Devils have won one and lost one under his supervision.
