Man Utd player ratings vs West Ham, Sesko saves the day but 3/10 teammate was horrendous

Manchester United’s honeymoon period under Michael Carrick came to a deflating end as they lost 1-0 at West Ham United.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s West Ham played like a side determined to at least share points as the first half went by goalless, with chances few and far between.

The deadlock was broken in the second half by Tomas Soucek for West Ham as a direct attack caught United off guard.

A Casemiro response was ruled out for offside as they raised the tempo, before Benjamin Sesko repeated his Fulham heroics to save United a point against a well-drilled West Ham to protect Michael Carrick from his first loss as Man Utd manager.

Senne Lammens – 6.5

Nice save from Summerville in the first half. Calm on the ball. Nutmegged for the goal.

Diogo Dalot – 3

Return to poor form as Summerville gave him problems defensively. Horrendous before coming off.

Harry Maguire – 6.5

Key last-man tackles and interceptions. His hamstring will be one to watch after he came off.

Lisandro Martinez – 7

His work with the ball stood out the most, be it his passing or carrying. Should have done better for West Ham’s opener.

Shaw – 4

Closest to scoring off a beautiful set-piece. Poor defending for West Ham’s opener.

Casemiro – 7

Swept up play in the middle of the park with authority.

Kobbie Mainoo – 7.5

Kept his good form going by showing some nice touches mixed with combativeness.

Amad – 6

A willing runner in both phases but needed to do more with the ball.

Bruno Fernandes – 7

Made everything happen again, it’s just that not much happened this time.

Matheus Cunha – 6

Like Amad, tried hard but was stifled by West Ham’s stubborn setup.

Bryan Mbeumo – 6

No Spurs heroics repeat off the left.

Substitutes

Leny Yoro – 6.5

An able replacement for Maguire as West Ham were repelled by him on the break late on.

Benjamin Sesko – 7

Saved more points for United with another injury-time goal, this time an equaliser.

Joshua Zirkzee – 6

Came on late as Carrick threw the kitchen sink at it. Missed a header in injury time to equalise.
