I cannot put into full words my different feelings towards Paul Scholes as the legendary Manchester United player vs the pundit taking shots against Michael Carrick.
Paul Scholes defined my entire childhood as a Manchester United fan after witnessing him pull the midfield strings under iconic former boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
I think the 51-year-old legendary former United midfielder is an elite class of his own, but I can’t say he is doing himself any favours with me as an armchair pundit.
Scholes’ criticism of Michael Carrick after Man Utd’s 2-1 defeat to Newcastle in last Wednesday evening’s Premier League clash at St James’ Park felt unnecessary.
The United legend has since broken his silence and addressed his social media post at the time, but it’s safe to say I have another bone to pick with him now.

Paul Scholes reveals his message to Man Utd legend Michael Carrick and his apology is more extended in public than needed
Paul Scholes returned to his podcast, ‘The Good, The Bad & The Football,’ and sat down with former Manchester United teammates Wes Brown and Nicky Butt.
The former TNT Sports pundit could not avoid the drama that had been sparked by his remarks around Michael Carrick in the wake of United’s last loss to Newcastle.
Scholes, to his credit, did show a more level-headed amount of accountability for his actions with Carrick compared with the public spats with defender Lisandro Martinez.
Unlike stoking the flames further with the Lisandro Martinez rivalry, the Red Devils legend opened up on the candid message that he had directly sent to Carrick.
“It was in no way intended to be offensive towards Michael,” Scholes said.
“Michael is one of the nicest people you will ever meet in football. He’d be the last person that I would want to offend.
“I messaged Michael anyway. I went straight to Michael and said, ‘Look, I was never intending to upset you.’
“And I don’t think I needed to say that anyway and he told me himself he wasn’t upset by it.”
Paul Scholes came so close to winning me over before the Man Utd legend’s final points about his Michael Carrick message
I will say that Scholes did the right thing by putting his hands up and saying, ‘I did wrong and I should message him (Carrick) to clear the air and not let it escalate.’
The former England international had me for a moment when I was listening to his words on the latest episode of The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast show.
But it was the exact point where the outspoken pundit said that he ‘did not think he needed to say’ what he did to Carrick in his message that left me shaking my head.
It felt like another unnecessary addition to his appearance on a public platform and almost like he wanted to defend his actions when he doesn’t need to right now.
Just allow the public ‘spat’ to be settled, move forward and simply stick with ‘I’m sorry’ rather than letting his pride creep in at the final moment of his point.
Like I said, full credit where it is due for reaching out in the first place, but Scholes still doesn’t understand how to keep his ego fully in check when he was in the wrong.
