Manchester United’s hopes of signing Elliot Anderson this summer appear to be slimming, but Alex Scott has just made himself the perfect back-up.
In recent months, Elliot Anderson has been Manchester United’s top midfield target, with the Nottingham Forest star arguably the most improved talent this season.
However, Manchester City are favourites to sign Anderson, being able to offer a more lucrative contract to the English international, and currently are Champions League bound with clear managerial direction.
The result of this has seen United rounding up alternatives, with interest remaining in Sandro Tonali. Meanwhile, Alex Scott should also absolutely be in contention.

Alex Scott stars defensively for Bournemouth
Scott started for Bournemouth in defensive midfield during a 0-0 draw with Burnley on Saturday afternoon and was by far the best player on the pitch.
The Englishman played the full 90 minutes, with his stats particularly impressive.
- 52/58 passes completed
- 2/2 dribbles completed
- 8 passes into the final third
- 19 defensive contributions
- 7 tackles
- 3 clearances
- 8 recoveries
- 14/17 duels won
Scott is only 22, yet already has such a rounded skillset in midfield, capable of playing any role, however, is increasingly looking excellent in a more defensive area of the pitch.
United have had Scott on a shortlist this season, likely considered as a second midfield signing option after the really expensive targets.
If United are following Scott, they will surely be impressed by his performances this season and he could be an excellent signing who could get a lot better.
Alex Scott could be the perfect alternative to Elliot Anderson for Manchester United
By all accounts, United are going to sign two midfielders this summer.
It would make sense for one to break the bank, in the ilk of Tonali, Carlos Baleba or Adam Wharton. But the second will probably be more around the £40m or £50m mark.
Joao Gomes and Mateus Fernandes are strong contenders for this, with United also linked to Ayyoub Bouaddi as a wonderkid option.
But Scott might fit into this group, with his value unlikely to go beyond £60m at maximum this summer given Bournemouth are quite willing sellers.
Scott has been on United’s radar for years, and he was always tipped as being high potential. Which is now currently being lived up to.
As a player, Scott brings a lot of the qualities Anderson does, therefore, he seems like a brilliant alternative.
