Not only Casemiro, Man Utd fans showed their true colours to another player ahead of Nottingham Forest match – opinion

Casemiro had an emotional farewell at Old Trafford at the weekend, but Manchester United fans’ class extended beyond the Brazil international’s forthcoming departure.

Manchester United fans’ full admiration for the soon-to-be outgoing Casemiro was on display in the crowds at Old Trafford for Sunday’s match against Nottingham Forest.

Casemiro, who is out of contract with United in the summer, played at the Theatre of Dreams for the final time as a Red Devils player before he was subbed off.

The 34-year-old midfielder addressed Red Devils supporters after Man Utd’s 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest, but the fans showed their class on another occasion as well.

Forget Casemiro for a moment, as Tyrell Malacia was shown a fitting tribute ahead of his Man Utd exit

Casemiro was the central focus of the final Premier League match at Old Trafford in the 2025-26 campaign due to his upcoming high-profile exit from the club in June.

But Manchester United’s encounter against Nottingham Forest also marked the final time that Tyrell Malacia would be a Red Devils player at Old Trafford this season.

Tyrell Malacia was an unused substitute during the Premier League match, but the 26-year-old forgotten Dutchman had his moment with United fans ahead of kick-off.

The Red Devils left-back posed with a signed shirt alongside his family in front of the famed Stretford End, with United fans applauding him during his photo opportunity.

Nathan Salt shared the footage on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, and the reaction at Old Trafford was shared by United fans in the replies.

The writing was on the wall for Tyrell Malacia, but the Man Utd player received a deserved exit

There were high expectations for Tyrell Malacia after the Dutch full-back arrived at Old Trafford under Erik ten Hag from Eredivisie outfit Feyenoord in 2022.

However, Malacia’s playing time failed to take off at United and the eventual nail in the coffin for his Red Devils spell came with his devastating long-term knee injury.

The former Netherlands international was offered the chance to recapture his best form at PSV Eindhoven in 2025, but Malacia’s loan spell ended in disappointment.

Malacia was unable to make his exit from Old Trafford last summer and the former Netherlands international climbed back into the United first-team for this season.

Michael Carrick’s classy message about Malacia’s departure from United in his end-of-season speech matched the energy of Red Devils supporters before the match.

Malacia is on his way out of United this summer, but at least the former PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord player will never forget the respect that fans showed him until the very end.
