Wayne Rooney has said that he is “delighted” about what he has seen from one Manchester United player under both Ruben Amorim and Michael Carrick this season.
Manchester United kicked off their 2025-26 Premier League season under Ruben Amorim and ended the campaign with Michael Carrick in the Old Trafford hot seat.
The Red Devils were in action on the final day of the Premier League season and United secured a stunning 3-0 win over Brighton at the Amex on Sunday afternoon.
Carrick’s men had already locked down a third-place Premier League finish in their campaign ahead of Man Utd’s encounter with Brighton at the weekend.

Bruno Fernandes had been playing in a deeper midfield role under former Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim earlier in the 2025-26 campaign.
The 31-year-old Man Utd captain’s influence was hindered in the two-man pivot, but he came into his best form in the second half of the season under Michael Carrick.
Fernandes broke the Premier League assist record in Man Utd’s 3-0 win over Brighton and the Portuguese midfielder also netted on the visit to the Amex.
Wayne Rooney praised Fernandes for surpassing the Premier League milestone that he had previously shared with both Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
“Yeah, no, I’m delighted for him,” he said on BBC Sport’s The Wayne Rooney Show.
“It’s mad because years ago, you never really heard of, you knew obviously who set the goal up and who got the assist, but it wasn’t a big thing.
“And so that’s turned into a big thing now.”

Fernandes managed to pick up a staggering 13 of his 21 Premier League assists in his last 17 matches since United legend Carrick took his place in the dugout.
Rooney feels that the former Sporting CP midfielder has been a standout in the 2025-26 season, despite his up-and-down form under Amorim and Carrick.
“But yeah, listen, he’s been fantastic all season and for me to play the year because the influence he has just on Man United, but on his teammates as well,” he explained.
“And you can see how driven he is. And he’s scored a few goals as well. So, I think he’s been the heartbeat of that Man United team.”
Fernandes found the back of the net nine times and registered 22 assists in 37 matches across all competitions for Man Utd in the 2025-26 campaign.
