Manchester United managed to snap up Tynan Thompson from Tottenham last week for a fee of £4m, which was an incredibly exciting move, but Ineos can’t now lose an equally impressive talent.
Last week, Manchester United confirmed the signing of Tynan Thompson from Tottenham, with the 18-year-old signing as a first-team addition, pictured in training with the senior players.
United are expected to fast-track Thompson, and it wouldn’t be a shock to see him involved in the squad for pre-season against Atletico Madrid or PSG in the coming weeks.
Signing Thompson sees United undoing Ruben Amorim’s era with an exciting out-and-out winger added, with the hope he can reach serious heights in a red shirt. But just because Thompson has arrived, United can’t afford to undo this by losing another huge prospect.
Manchester United cannot lose Noah Ajayi
Signing Thompson is exciting because he is one of the most exciting wingers in English youth football, with every bit of potential to be elite. But United can’t let this addition be overshadowed by losing German youth international left-winger Noah Ajayi in the same summer.
Ajayi burst onto the scene last season for the U18 side, scoring some really impressive goals and demonstrating elite qualities in terms of his ball carrying and power.
He is a huge talent, but now United have to worry about losing him.
This is because the Guardian has reported that Brentford are interested in Ajayi this summer, with their recruitment model identifying him as an exciting talent.
Brentford are spot on, he is very exciting, but that is precisely why United can’t let him leave this summer. Ajayi may end up looking to join Bayern Munich, with murmurs of interest last season, but not giving Ajayi the chance to reach his potential at Old Trafford is a big mistake.
The chance of both making it for United are slim, considering they are similar ages and fighting for the same role. But Ajayi is more than good enough to kick on massively with the U21s this season and then break through as an option or get a loan to the Bundesliga in the coming years.
Even if only one makes it, the other has the potential to be good enough to at least be sold for a very decent fee.
Both Ajayi and Tynan Thompson will benefit from Marcus Rashford return
Neither Ajayi nor Thompson would have had a pathway at United with Amorim doing away with wingers, which is actually a vital part of United’s DNA as a club.
Fast forward to now, under Carrick, and both Ajayi and Thompson are precisely what United need at left-wing.
This also lines up with the return of Marcus Rashford, who is almost the perfect mentor for both these talents, with their styles similar to the returning United winger.
Assuming Rashford actually does return and knuckles down, he has two young wingers who will be desperate to learn and grow from working with him.
Like Rashford, Ajayi and Thompson are both tall, quick, excellent dribblers, direct, and have an eye for a goal.
Exciting times for United, with plenty of talent on the wings – Ineos just need to hold onto it.
