Manchester United youngster Dan Armer has been one of the quiet success stories in pre-season.
Pre-season 2026 has been a positive experience for Manchester United’s academy players.
Shea Lacey has been the standout, with Harry Amass not far behind. But the quiet winner of pre-season has been Dan Armer.
The young centre-back has played minutes in every game, and he has looked at ease against opponents of an increasingly strong calibre.
Armer, 18, has been compared in style to Harry Maguire, and he has earned the praise of the senior Manchester United defender.

Harry Maguire praises Dan Armer
Harry Maguire spoke to MUTV in Ireland ahead of Manchester United’s friendly match-up against Leeds.
Maguire said: “He’s been excellent in pre-season, Dan’s been brilliant.
“18 years old in playing in tough games and playing for this club for the first time. He’s been magnificent at centre-back, and hopefully can continue to progress.
“Keep enjoying working with us. There’s been so many good good performances from the younger boys.”
Armer will be hoping for more minutes in United’s upcoming matches against Leeds and then AC Milan.
That’s certainly possible, with Matthijs de Ligt still sidelined and Lisandro Martinez yet to link back up with the squad following the World Cup.
What are Armer’s prospects?
Dan Armer is currently behind Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, Leny Yoro, Ayden Heaven and Matthijs de Ligt.
At a push, it’s also likely that Michael Carrick would convert a full-back if needed. Both Luke Shaw and Noussair Mazraoui are capable of playing at centre-back.
However, Armer is picking up valuable experience and his performances in these pre-season games has shown that he looks perfectly comfortable in and around the first team.
With Tyler Fredricson sold to Lausanne, Armer has emerged as next in line if an opportunity does emerge.
United fans have been watching his progress, and Maguire’s vote of confidence shows that he has earned the respect of the first team squad.
