Man Utd fans react to Benjamin Sesko theory after performance vs Sabah, all signs point in one direction

Manchester United fans put the spotlight on Benjamin Sesko after the Red Devils’ return to the Champions League for the Sabah clash at Old Trafford on Thursday evening.

Michael Carrick’s men kicked off their Champions League run for the 2026-27 campaign after their mixed opening three matches of the Premier League season.

Manchester United lost 1-0 to Hull City before Michael Carrick’s side thumped Ipswich Town 5-2, while the club dropped points to Everton in a 2-2 draw.

The Red Devils had never faced current Azerbaijan Premier League champions Sabah ahead of their opening Champions League encounter this season.

Man Utd fans think Michael Carrick’s Benjamin Sesko call was tactical in the Sabah match

Benjamin Sesko made his first start of the 2026-27 campaign after he had climbed off the bench in the opening three Premier League matches of the season.

The 23-year-old Slovenia striker netted before half-time and played 64 minutes before Manchester United manager Michael Carrick withdrew him from the match.

United fans on X, formerly Twitter, immediately drew the ‘obvious conclusion’ that Sesko was hooked off in preparation for the Manchester City match this Sunday.

“Sesko [was] getting subbed after 60 mins. Gotta be starting vs City, then,” one United supporter speculated.

Another asked: “Does this mean Sesko is starting against Man City?”

Someone else commented: “[A] Sesko derby start confirmed?”

“If Sesko doesn’t start against City on Sunday, I’ll question Carrick’s choices,” a fourth Red Devils fan wrote.

A fifth X user tweeted: “Sesko is starting against City — that’s why Carrick is giving him a rest now.”

Somebody else said: “Sesko off [at the] hour [mark] makes no sense. He needs the minutes. This better mean he’s starting Sunday.”

“Hopefully, Sesko coming off means he’s starting Sunday,” a seventh added.

While another posted: “I hope Sesko coming off means he is starting on Sunday.”

United will now switch their attention away from the Champions League and Michael Carrick’s men face a huge Premier League test this weekend.

The Red Devils will welcome Manchester City to Old Trafford for the first Manchester derby of the season, with a 4:30pm UK kick-off time scheduled for Sunday.
