Fabrizio Romano is “100% sure” Carrick hid the truth about Man Utd in latest press conference

The media narrative war has begun at Man Utd and Fabrizio Romano is “100%” sure that Michael Carrick is having to hide the truth as the last resort.

Ahead of the game against Bournemouth, Michael Carrick gave an impassioned monologue about the greatness of Man Utd.

He reaffirmed his commitment to turning it around at Old Trafford, convinced he is the right man, and fought back against suggestions that he’s a weak leader.

Amidst all the claims, however, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Carrick hid the truth about a major thing regarding the dressing room at Carrington.

Fabrizio Romano on Michael Carrick’s Man Utd dressing room

It’s a tale as old as time for Man Utd fans, wherein the players ultimately down their tools and wait for the new manager to arrive and continue the toxic culture.

It seemed to have dissipated under Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim, but seeing the comments of Lisandro Martinez and Bruno Fernandes after the last two games, the cycle seems to have returned.

Even Carrick bit back against Fernandes‘ assertion after the Como loss, questioning the team’s work rate and desire, regardless of the tactics.

Despite all this, Carrick said before the Bournemouth game that the dressing room is firmly behind him and he trusts the players 100%.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said that he’s also “100% sure” that there are problems in that dressing room, and players are not happy with Carrick.

He said: “I still tell you 100% I’m sure about this. There are some issues with the players. That’s a point that we have to mention is the reality. Michael Carrick sent a message that I 100% trust this team.

“I’m also sure that Carrick has some problems in managing the dressing room. There are some players who are not happy.”

Romano could be right instead of Carrick

It feels counter-productive to trust Romano over the Man Utd manager, but the former probably gets his information directly from the players, while the latter is likely just trying to put up a united front.

This is not an ideal situation, and the players are clearly making their displeasure with the manager known to the press via their agents.

It undermines Carrick’s position and is precisely the kind of toxic culture Ineos claimed they would root out.

Sacking the manager once the players don’t feel up to it will bring the team a hundred steps backwards and set a dangerous precedent for the next man up.

This is an inflexion point at the club. Either Man Utd go back to the dark ages of player power, or somebody else (looking at you, Wilcox), finally takes accountability instead of just sacking the manager again.
