4-3-3: Predicted Manchester United XI v Wolves, Lisandro Martinez starts

Manchester United’s final game of 2022 is almost upon us. The Red Devils visit Wolves in the Premier League in New Year’s Eve.

United are the early kick-off, 12.30pm, visiting Molineux for the first time since August 2021, a 1-0 away win.

Wolves got their own back in the last meeting between the two teams, winning 1-0 at Old Trafford back in January in the first game of 2022.

United can symbolically close the chapter on a testing year, with a win, which will show the progress made under new manager Erik ten Hag.

The Red Devils are in fifth place and can temporarily leapfrog Tottenham into fourth, who play Aston Villa on New Year’s Day.

Wolves meanwhile are in 18th with only three victories this season, but United will be wary of new manager Julen Lopetegui’s influence.

Predicted Manchester United XI v Wolves

Manchester United’s line-up will feature a few tweaks to the side which beat Nottingham Forest earlier this week.

Erik ten Hag has to sensibly manage his squad and that will mean rotation will be key across a busy January.

David de Gea will line-up in goal while Aaron Wan-Bissaka will continue to stand-in at right-back in Diogo Dalot’s absence.

Luke Shaw is likely to revert to left-back after his successful display in the centre in midweek.

This is because Raphael Varane is likely to partner returning World Cup winner Lisandro Martinez in the centre of defence.

There could be a slight change in midfield with Christian Eriksen rested at the expense of Fred, who came on to score in midweek.

He would form a midfield trio with Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes. Don’t be surprised if Eriksen starts, but Fred’s fresh legs could be vital in this one.

Up front expect United to continue with the same front three which started against Forest, with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Antony.

It’s not ideal to play injury-prone Martial in two matches so close together, but United’s shortage of options up front means it is necessary to start him.
