Confirmed Manchester United XI v Crystal Palace; Weghorst starts, Ten Hag makes 3 changes

Erik ten Hag has named his Manchester United starting line-up for tonight’s rearranged Premier League clash against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The Red Devils are targeting a tenth consecutive win across all competitions, and here is the XI Ten Hag has selected to start the game against Patrick Vieira’s Eagles.

Starting XI: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Martinez, Shaw, Casemiro, Eriksen, Fernandes, Antony, Rashford, Weghorst.

Substitutes: Heaton, Lindelof, Maguire, Malacia, Fred, McTominay, Pellistri, Elanga, Garnacho.

The big news is that Ten Hag has handed his compatriot Wout Weghorst his debut from the start.

The 30-year-old, who completed his loan move for the remainder of the campaign from Championship leaders Burnley on Friday night, comes into the side for Anthony Martial who was brought off at half-time in Saturday’s 2-1 win against Manchester City at Old Trafford having complained of discomfort.

Weghorst played the full 90 minutes of Burnley’s 1-1 draw against Palace at Selhurst Park back in February, and he thought he got himself on the scoresheet before being denied by now fellow United loan signing Jack Butland.

The 19-time Netherlands international’s inclusion in the starting line-up is one of three changes Ten Hag has made to the side that came from behind to beat Pep Guardiola’s Citizens.

Lisandro Martinez comes into the side to start his first Premier League game since becoming a World Cup winner.

United’s number six replaces Tyrell Malacia with Luke Shaw seemingly reverting to his natural left-back position.

Antony replaces his compatriot Fred with Ten Hag opting to select another attacker.

Like United’s number 17, Casemiro is a booking away from missing Sunday’s crunch clash against Arsenal, but the 30-year-old walking a suspension tightrope hasn’t had an impact on Ten Hag’s decision to start him from the off against Palace.

Marcus Rashford, who scored the winner against City, will be looking to score in his eighth consecutive match for the Reds and United’s number 10 has shrugged off the blow which caused him discomfort against the Citizens.

A win for the twenty-time league champions in the capital would move Ten Hag’s side up to second in the table and six points behind leaders Arsenal, albeit having played a game more.

The Dutchman’s Reds take on Mikel Arteta’s Gunners at The Emirates on Sunday afternoon.

After being appointed Manchester United’s fifth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, Ten Hag sat alongside United’s football director John Murtough to watch the Busby Babes get beat by Palace at Selhurst Park, on the final day of last season, which was Ralf Rangnick’s last game in interim charge of the club.
